1967 Co-Champion Football Coaches, Ken Gulbranson of Stewart and Bob Hage of Hector.  The Stewart-Hector football games were classic match-ups in the late 1950's and 1960's. 1963 Hector Tri-Captains:  Todd Macek, Don Lund , Larry Radloff, Eugene Buboltz, and Coach Bob Hage. Macek and Radloff scored a combined total of 64 touchdowns in their careers. 1961 Stewart Senior Basketball Players:  Willard Carlson, Dick Barnes, Bob Streich, Lenny Weber, and Steve Twite.
1972 Stewart starting five:  Larry Schuette, Chuck Kosek, Elmer Rettig, Parry Syverson, and Larry Syverson.  All starters averaged double figures for the season. 1962 Stewart Basketball Players:  Tyrone Wacker, Gary Meier, Larry Meier, Gary Kirchoff, and Dick Twite.  Kneeling is Coach Merv Elwood.  All five athletes excelled in four sports. Dick Barnes (Stewart 1961), #12 skirts left-end in the 1960 Homecoming game versus Renville.  Renville defender unknown.  Barnes was regarded as one of the most talented quarterbacks in the 212 Conference.
Ted Burke (Stewart 1966) dominated 212 athletics in the mid 60's.  He scored 1801 points in basketball, threw the shot put 52 feet, and played football after his highschool career for the Minnesota Gophers.

    1964 - The first event held in Stewart's new gymnasium.  The first activity in the gym was the 1964 212 Basketball Jamboree.

The 1961 Danube Hawks celebrate their Region 3 Championship at Gustavus: Sheldon Manthei, Bob VanDenEinde, Tom Svobodny, Jerome Roelofs (directly behind Svobodny) Larry Kleinhuizen, Gary Hoffman (directly behind Kleinhuizen, Gary Hotovec, Bob Bruggers, Woody Schemmel.  Directly behind Schemmel are coaches Rod Black and Chuck Erickson

Two of the best athletes in the area in 1958 - Lee Raitz of Hector on the left and Gary Kaiser of Danube - finish 1st and 2nd in the 220 yard dash.  Allen Rettman of Stewart (no visible behind Kaiser), finished 3rd.  Jim Schimming of Sacred Heart (pictured behind Raitz) finished 4th.  Alan Krumrey of Buffalo Lake (pictured to the right of Kaiser) finished 5th. 1959 Brownton Basketball Captains Dick Peik and Ken Abram with Coach Bob Robinson a 1954 graduate of Bird Island High School.  Robinson was one of the great 212 Conference Athletes. 1954 Stewart - Hector football game at Stewart.  Stewart's Jim Karg #5 is running with the ball, Arlie Kirchoff is #70.  Hector athletes are:  #22 Steve Spreiter, #20 Corky Ahl, #30 Don Hennessey, #31 Forest Broderius, and #41 Gary Raitz. 1954 Stewart fullback Jim Karg is being tackled by all state Linebacker #30 Don Hennessey and D. Klenzman of Hector.  Other Stewart athletes are #61 Larry Lade, #63 Don Schultz, #1 Jim Kirchoff and #3 Arvin Buss. Other Hector athletes are #40 Gary Torbert and #32 Gene Torbert.
Hector Bulldog 1961 Basketball players: Tom Haspert, Larry Scholla, Steve Broderius,and John Jurisch shown with Coach Froiland.  The four formed one of the best football backfields in Conference History.    
  The Johnson brothers of Hector:  Steve, Galen, and Jay.  All three of the brothers were outstanding athletes in the mid 60's. 1957 Stewart - Hector football game.  Hector's quarterback, Lee Raitz is tackled by Stewart's Delano Wacker.  Other Stewart athletes are Pat Maiers, Jim Trettin, and Jerry Vacek.

The play that could have been.  With the score 13-7 in favor of Hector, the Stewart Gophers tried a halfback pass from Delano Wacker to end, Francis Kasal.  With Kasal being wide open on the play, Hector's Lee Raitz appeared out of nowhere at the last second to knock the ball away to save the game.

Danube cheerleaders Shirley Zaske, Mary Ann Manthei, Jeanette Dolezal, and Charlene Caldwell display the many trophies won by the Danube athletes during the 1953 - 1954 season. Larry Seehusen (1956 - Danube) was the first outstanding shot put athlete in the area.  Seehusen threw the shot put 51 feet 8 inches in the 1956 Conference Track Meet held at the County Fairgrounds in Bird Island. 1961 Stewart Gopher mile relay conference champions: Steve Twite, Dick Twite, Allen Hahn, Tyrone Wacker.
